Ryder Reaches Key Milestone in Major Alternative Fuel Initiative
March 30, 2011 - Ryder System, Inc., a leader in commercial transportation and supply chain management solutions, today announced that it reached a key milestone in a major alternative fuel initiative with the order of 202 heavy-duty natural gas vehicles. The vehicle order is part of Ryder's agreement with the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) to launch a groundbreaking heavy-duty natural gas truck rental and leasing project in Southern California. Ryder will begin taking delivery of the vehicles in April, and expects to have the full order integrated into its fleet by September. Ryder will also begin work this month to upgrade the first of three existing maintenance facilities in its network to be properly equipped for the indoor servicing of natural gas vehicles and will soon commence construction of two natural gas fueling stations. click here  >

Fuel Prices Drive Up Demand for NGVs in USA
March 30, 2011 - Ford Motor Company has recorded increased demand for compressed natural gas-powered (CNG) vehicles by commercial customers, citing the rising price of traditional fuel, significant government incentives and an increasing number of fuel stations as the main reasons. “Fleet managers are adding all the reasons up and concluding that it makes sense to switch to CNG now more than ever,” said Rod Phillips, Ford Commercial Business Manager of the New England area. click here  >

City takes lead in push to fuel vehicles with natural gas
March 21, 2011 - Backers of alternative fuels see a silver lining in rising pump prices. With gas and diesel prices climbing past $3 and $4 a gallon, respectively, cities, companies and environmentalists are once again talking about compressed natural gas, or CNG, as a smart alternative. Although powering vehicles with natural gas has advantages - an average price of $1.70 per gasoline gallon equivalent and 60 percent lower carbon emissions - making the switch to CNG is expensive because there is no fueling infrastructure comparable to gas stations. click here  >

Natural gas the next ‘green hope’
March 20, 2011 - My March 7 column pointing out how much sense it makes, from a supply security and ethical superiority standpoint, for the United States to import oil from Canada’s oil sands rather than from unstable Middle Eastern and tyrant-led North African countries, drew this reader response: “Canada should be encouraging both countries to detox and pursue the very energy alternatives casually dismissed by Morgan.” click here  >

Regular gasoline is nearing $4 a gallon and could hit $5 a gallon
March 15, 2011 - The average price in the U.S. was already soaring because of Middle East unrest, but the loss of 1 million barrels a day of refined fuel production in quake and tsunami-ravaged Japan could put further strain on drivers' wallets. click here  >

The time is now for natural gas
March 12, 2011 - The future will happen, but the quality of that future will be shaped by how we prepare for it today. This is especially evident in the realm of energy, where our nation is crippled by dependence on foreign oil. With the bulk of our oil supply at the mercy of politically tumultuous nations — we spent $32.6 billion on imported oil in January 2011 — it is imperative that Americans look for clean, domestic alternatives to fuel their vehicles. click here  >

States pumping up natural gas use

March 10, 2011 - UPS recently reached a major milestone as its fleet of alternative fuel vehicles (AFV) racked up an impressive 200 million miles of travel since the year 2000. The shipping titan plans to double that figure by the year 2017 and has put the wheels in motion for expanding the fleet by ordering another 48 heavy tractor trucks equipped to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) which, while not electric, is still a little better at least than straight gasoline. click here  >
