Ameripride Puts Compressed Natural Gas to Work in Its Fleet
September 19th, 2013 - Ameripride Services, a linen and uniform rental company that operates a large fleet of medium-duty commercial vehicles, has deployed five compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks in its service territory in and around Omaha, Neb. Green Alternative Systems (GAS) installed BAF Technologies/Westport Innovations dedicated CNG systems on Ford F-550 chassis. These vehicles use Ford's 6.8-liter V-10 engine. READ MORE >

SoCalGas Waving the Natural Gas Vehicle Banner
September 19th, 2013 - Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) is leading some public outreach efforts in its region for a group of prototype natural gas vehicles (NGVs) that debuted in June. The Add Natural Gas (+NG) campaign - a collaboration between America's Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) and the American Gas Association (AGA) - rolled out bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) versions of six popular vehicles during the ACT Expo early this summer. Redlands' Green Efforts Continue With Addition of Alternative Fuel Waste Department Vehicle
September 16th, 2013 - The City of Redlands recently took delivery of two new heavy duty side loaders which run on liquid natural gas (LNG), paid for in part by funds from the Mobile Source Reduction Committee (MSRC) designated for the purchase of heavy duty alternative fuel vehicles. The new vehicles join a heavy duty LNG front loader delivered last spring. READ MORE >

American Public Gas Association Supports NGV Legislation
September 16th, 2013 - On 12th September, the American Public Gas Association (APGA) sent a letter of support to Senator Jim Inhofe who is sponsor of S. 1355, which would provide parity for NGVs under Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE), incent manufactures to produce NGVs and encourage consumers to purchase them. Senators Bob Casey, Roy Blunt and Mark Begich also sponsor the bill. Currently, credits earned by manufacturers for the production of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) are capped, except for electric vehicles (EVs) and plug in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). READ MORE >

New York’s Willow Run Foods Leasing 15 Ryder CNG Trucks to Reduce GHGs
September 15th, 2013 - Willow Run Foods is leasing 15 heavy-duty CNG trucks from Ryder Systems as part of Willow Run’s Alternative Transportation Project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Based in Kirkwood N.Y., near Binghamton, Willow Run delivers food throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic areas. The new CNG trucks will comprise 16 percent of Willow Run’s fleet. The project is being funded in part with $1 million from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as part of New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Regional Council Initiative. READ MORE >

Major Clean Transportation Bill Ready for Gov's Signature
September 12, 2013 - Critical legislation that supports California's alternative fuel vehicle, advanced transportation and clean air initiatives has passed in both chambers of the California Legislature, positioning the bill for consideration by Gov. Jerry Brown. Central to AB 8 is an extension of the state's clean transportation incentive programs through 2023. Funding in excess of $2 billion - paid for by specific fees and not money from the state's general fund - accompanies the legislation. READ MORE >
How The Florida Panhandle Is Becoming A Natural Gas Vehicle Mecca
September 11, 2013 - Municipal natural gas utility Pensacola Energy, the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) and a number of other fleets on the western-most edge of the Florida panhandle are making the move to convert their vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) power. Of course, critical to any successful deployment of natural gas vehicles (NGV) is the creation of adequate refueling infrastructure. Pensacola Energy and ECUA's long-term plans included building three CNG stations - the last one is scheduled to be complete in December. CNG Freightliners for Central - 100 Trucks
September 9th, 2013 - Waco, Texas-based Central Freight Lines has added 100 CNG-fueled M2 112 trucks to its fleet of more than 1,600 vehicles, manufacturer Freightliner reports, noting that Central will support them with fueling stations being developed with partners in Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston.“In 2012, we purchased CNG tractors that have been servicing the Houston area with proven efficiencies,” Central president and CEO Don Orr says in a Freightliner release. “As a result, we decided to continue investing in CNG tractors, specifically Freightliner trucks because of their reliability and the company’s customer support.” READ MORE >

Energy Department Awards $45 Million to Deploy Advanced Transportation Technologies
September 4th, 2013 - Building on President Obama’s Climate Action Plan to build a 21st century transportation sector and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Energy Department announced today more than $45 million for thirty-eight new projects that accelerate the research and development of vehicle technologies to improve fuel efficiency, lower transportation costs and protect the environment in communities nationwide. For Natural Gas-Fueled Cars, Long Road Looms Ahead
September 4th, 2013 - The natural gas boom that fracking wrought has shaken up the global energy landscape. Now its effects are rippling toward the fuel tanks of U.S. cars and trucks, although a few leaps may be required for natural gas vehicles to go mainstream. The natural gas industry is making a big push for passenger vehicles that can run on either natural gas or gasoline. As a demonstration, the industry group America's Natural Gas Alliance this summer unveiled six vehicle models retrofitted with these fuel systems for less than $3,000 apiece. And starting next year, Ford plans to equip a version of its best-selling pickup truck, the F-150, to run on either gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG). READ MORE >
